IV GUAIX Scientific Meeting
GUAIX meetings are an opportunity for the members of the group to keep up with the research lines that others are pursuing and the relevant results that have been obtained. They also serve as a springboard for new collaboration within the group and the efficient allocation of expertise in joint projects. The main focus of the meetings is for the early career members, PhD students and post-docs, to introduce themselves to the group as these are the more "volatile" elements of GUAIX and those who can benefit the most from emerging collaborations and synergies. As such, these meetings are expected to be held semi-regularly so that we can all keep up with each other.
We aim to upload the presentation files for each participant so that they serve as an introduction for future members of the group.

Unveiling the nature of a representative sample of Extreme Emission Line Galaxies at intermediate redshift
Studies of early galaxy formation are crucial for understanding the processes that have shaped the current Universe. Galaxies with intense star formation at z $>$ 6 are key to events such as reionization, but their faintness limits detailed studies. At lower redshifts (z $\sim$ 1), analogous galaxies allow for better characterization. Extreme Emission Line Galaxies (EELGs) stand out due to their high equivalent widths ($\sim$1000 Å), high specific star formation rates, low metallicities, and low masses. We aim to characterize the physical properties of a sample of 122 EELGs at 0.7 $<$ z $<$ 2, photometrically selected from the Extended Groth Strip catalog, obtaining results consistent with previous studies (Van Der Wel et al. 2011).

Preliminary results from Dwarfs4MOSAIC: A two-dimensional study of low-mass, high star-formation galaxies at low redshift
The study of the first galaxies which contributed to the ionization of the universe will become possible with an integral field and multi-object spectrograph like MOSAIC (significant contribution from GUAIX), set to be installed on the 39m Extremely Large Telescope (ELT), currently under construction. As a pilot study for that, a detailed two-dimensional study of the physical properties of a sample of low-mass (dwarf) star-forming galaxies at low redshift is being conducted. This project is part of the ITP Dwarfs4MOSAIC program (IP Jesus Gallego), which was selected through a competitive process in the spring of 2023 and extended in spring of 2024.
In this talk I will present the work carried out during 2025, which has consisted mainly of improvements in MEGARA image reduction and the development of codes that allow us to analyze spectral lines for WEAVE.Speaker: María Chillarón Víctor (Universidad Complutense Madrid - IPARCOS) -

Dwarf satellite galaxies in zoom-in cosmological simulations of MW-mass halos
In this talk, I will present the main scientific outcomes of my PhD thesis, which focuses on the analysis of dwarf satellite galaxies in cosmological zoom-in simulations of Milky Way–mass halos. First, I will briefly summarize the core results regarding the physical mechanisms that drive the quenching of star formation in satellite galaxies as they interact with their host halos, within the framework of the AGORA collaboration. Finally, I will discuss the findings related to the small-scale challenge of the ΛCDM model about the formation of planes of satellites in high-resolution zoom-in simulations. In particular, I will highlight the impact of the mass of a Gaia–Enceladus–Sausage–like major merger at z∼2 using the VINTERGATAN-GM simulation suite.

Galaxias ultradifusas en el cúmulo de Coma con NoiseChisel
Las galaxias ultradifusas (UDGs) son un caso extremo de galaxias de bajo brillo superficial, muy extendidas ($R_{e} \geq 1.5$ kpc) y con luminosidades en el régimen de enanas. Aunque son un grupo abundante en numerosos cúmulos, su naturaleza y los mecanismos responsables de su formación siguen siendo una cuestión abierta. El análisis de su posición en el plano tamaño-luminosidad constituye una herramienta clave para entender su relación con la población de galaxias del cúmulo, lo que hace especialmente relevante cuantificar sus parámetros morfológicos y compararlos con los del resto de galaxias detectadas. En este trabajo utilizamos imágenes profundas del cúmulo de Coma obtenidas con Subaru/HSC en las bandas g y r, empleando NoiseChisel para identificar estos objetos de bajo brillo superficial. A partir de estas detecciones generamos mapas de segmentación que sirven como base para un análisis estructural detallado con GALFIT.

Schwarzschild models of the Compact Stellar System M32 with MEGARA@GTC
The formation pathways of Compact Stellar Systems (CSSs) remain poorly understood. Some CSSs exhibit signatures of past interactions and mergers, in which tidal stripping is thought to play a key role. These systems often host dynamical structures typically associated with more massive galaxies, such as supermassive black holes (SMBHs), nuclear thin disks, and are preferentially located in dense environments. Other CSSs, however, can be explained through secular evolution or monolithic collapse, showing little evidence for environmental influence. A powerful way to distinguish between these formation scenarios is through the study of internal stellar dynamics.
In this talk, I present the latest results of state-of-the-art Schwarzschild dynamical models of one of the most extensively studied CSSs, the compact elliptical galaxy M32, based on MEGARA@GTC integral-field spectroscopy. These models constrain the triaxial shape of the stellar mass distribution, the mass and scale of the central SMBH, and the properties of the dark matter halo. A key advantage of thoroughly sampling the model parameter space is the ability to analyze the resulting orbital distributions, revealing how different orbit families and dynamical structures are distributed throughout the galaxy.

Aplicación e implementación del método cáustico con la simulación The300
El objetivo de mi tesis es estudiar los perfiles de masa de cúmulos de galaxias utilizando el método cáustico como una preparación cientÍfica del próximo survey CATARSIS. Durante la tesis estudiamos las limitaciones del método así como las propiedades dinámicas de los cúmulos de galaxias: subestructuras, anisotropía y formas complejas de triaxialidad propias de la formación de estas grandes estructuras cosmológicas que pueden afectar significativamente a la estimación del perfil de masa.

An analysis of the Star Formation Main Sequence with [Mg/Fe] stellar abundances
This talks presents a general analysis of the Star Formation Main Sequence, exploring its connection with stellar [Mg/Fe] abundances. Global trends linking star formation activity with the chemical evolution of galaxies are examined. The results provide a generic framework for understanding the physical processes regulating both properties.

Ética en la Ciencia
La ética en la ciencia no se limita no se limita a los campos de la biología o la medicina, pero ¿somos conscientes de ello?
Esta charla pretende ser una reflexión sobre la capacidad crítica de los investigadores para no caer en el sesgo de confirmación y para ser conscientes de la necesidad de cuestionarnos si en nuestro trabajo diario nos documentamos suficientemente y evaluamos todas las posibilidades en el análisis de nuestra investigación o si hemos caído en la vorágine de la publicación rápida que genere muchas citas. Se analizarán también las consecuencias que esto tiene para la carrera de un investigador en las distintas etapas de su vida.

Stellar Streams on Numerical Simulations
Numerical Simulations of the Universe provide a unique laboratory for studying the assembly LSB features around galaxies. Until recently, the resolution of these simulations only allowed to resolve the coarsest LSB structures, but the arrival of Very-High resolution simulations it is becoming possible to resolve stellar stream around massive hosts.
On this talk, we will present preliminary results on the formation of stellar streams on the Vintergatan suite of simulations, where we identify two factors shaping stellar stream formation.

Clasificando y caracterizando galaxias enanas para ARRAKIHS
La charla tratará sobre mi tesis en clasificación y caracterización de enanas en la misión ARRAKIHS. Se comenta el problema de la función de masa de subhalos y cómo aparece en relación ARRAKIHS para tratar, en general, el universo de bajo brillo superficial. Desde ahí, se centra la charla en cómo se tratan las imágenes simuladas de tipo-ARRAKIHS para generar (con GNUAstro) catálogos fotométricos, segmentando la imagen en trozos... con el objetivo de, pasar esos clumps a un algoritmo de ML, de modo que aprenda las características con las que reconocer a las enanas

The MEGARA/GTC view of the multi-phase outflow in the Narrow Line Seyfert 1 galaxy IRAS 17020+4544
Outflows play a central role in AGN feedback, transporting mass and energy from the nucleus into the host galaxy on a wide range of spatial scales. Theoretical models predict that sub-relativistic Ultra Fast Outflows (UFOs), once they collide with the surrounding interstellar medium (ISM), decelerate and decrease in ionization state, potentially giving rise to large-scale, multi-phase outflows detectable in the optical and molecular gas regimes.
The Narrow Line Seyfert 1 galaxy, IRAS 17020+4544, provides a rare nearby laboratory to examine this process in action. It hosts a complex X-ray UFO, a powerful cold molecular outflow spatially resolved in CO with NOEMA, and a low-power radio jet likely driving shocks into the surrounding ISM.
In this work, we analyze new seeing-limited optical IFS data obtained with MEGARA/GTC in both low- (R ≈ 6000; LR) and medium-resolution (R ≈ 12 000; MR) modes. We model the Hα and [O III] λ5007 emission lines using multi-Gaussian fitting to characterize the kinematics of the ionized gas, particularly the outflowing component, derive its energetics, and compare them with those of the X-ray and molecular phases.
Our results support a scenario in which the multi-phase outflow in IRAS 17020+4544 is AGN-driven and broadly `energy-conserving' across its highly ionized, warm ionized, and molecular components, indicating efficient coupling of AGN energy to the host galaxy’s ISM. The molecular outflow emerges as the dominant phase, while the ionized component contributes less to the overall mass budget and feedback efficiency.

The AC3 project: Driving the next generation of European computing infrastructure
In this talk, I will introduce the AC3 project (Agile and Cognitive Cloud-edge Continuum Management, https://ac3-project.eu/), a European-funded initiative under Horizon Europe. AC3’s goal is to build a smart management system that works across the full cloud-edge continuum, from centralized data centers to far-edge devices. The project includes three different Use Cases that together serve as a proof of concept for the platform. UCM/RedHat leads Use Case 3, which focuses on the distributed processing of Integral Field Spectroscopy data. Because of the large data volumes and computational needs, the AC3 architecture is key. Finally, I will also show the latest version of the Graphical User Interface developed specifically for this Use Case.

Dissecting Ionized-Gas Outflows in Nearby Galaxies Using MEGARA/GTC
Galactic winds, often driven by intense star formation or AGN activity, are particularly significant in the context of galactic feedback, being active agents of the baryonic cycle of the galaxy, mainly by redistributing gas, dust, and metals both within the galaxy and in the intergalactic medium (IGM). These winds may also influence the star formation of their host galaxies, acting either as a suppressed (negative feedback) or enhanced (positive feedback) mechanism.
In this talk, I will present the results of analysing optical integral field spectroscopy data for 38 local, predominantly late-type galaxies from the MEGADES survey. Through a multi-component emission-line fitting, we extracted a subsample of galaxies hosting galactic outflows, and studied their incidence, possible driving mechanisms and the impact on their host galaxies.Speaker: Pablo Álvarez Martín (CAB - UCM) -

Tracing Embedded Star Formation in NGC 1433 with JWST data
I study the early evolution of star-forming regions and stellar clusters in the nearby galaxy NGC 1433 using JWST Paschen-α imaging combined with HST, PHANGS-MUSE, and cluster catalogs. I constructed a homogeneous Paα source catalog and matched each region to nebular Hα emission and young stellar clusters. Using physically calibrated PHANGS Hα fluxes, I derived reliable Paα/Hα ratios to measure nebular extinction and study how dust attenuation varies with region structure and environment. I also quantified the morphology of ionized gas using concentration indices and examined the evolution of Paα equivalent width with cluster age. The results show that Paα provides a clean tracer of embedded star formation and reveals systematic differences between gas, stars, and environments in the earliest phases of cluster evolution

The CATARSIS-SZ pilot project
We have started a pilot project to study the spatially resolved Sunyaev-Zeldovich signal in a few clusters of galaxies. This work is in preparation for the CATARSIS survey that the TARSIS instrument will carry out at the CAHA 3.5m telescope after installation and commissioning. I will describe the work done so far on this pilot and the motivation to expand it though a future AtLAST-CATARSIS program.

The Metal-THINGS survey: spatially resolved analysis of the Dust-to-gas ratio (DGR), CO-to-H2 conversion factor (αCO) and metallicity (Z) for low mass galaxies.
We present a spatially resolved analysis of the CO-to-H2 conversion
factor (αCO) and dust-to-gas ratio (DGR) for NGC4214, NGC2976,
NGC3077, NGC2403 and NGC0925. We have simultaneously solved for αCO
and the DGR by assuming that the DGR is approximately constant on
kiloparsec scales. With this assumption, we can combine maps of dust
mass surface density, CO-integrated intensity, and HI density to solve
for both αCO and the DGR. This study uses the spatially resolved
optical observations of the Metal-THINGS survey, the 12CO J = (2–1)
maps from the IRAM 30 m large program HERACLES, and HI 21 cm line maps
from THINGS. For NGC 4214, NGC2976 and NGC3077, we observe a generally
flat profile of αCO as a function of galactocentric radius while for
NGC2403 and NGC0925 we observe a positive relation. The DGR as a
function of galactocentric radius shows a negative slope except for
NGC4214 and NGC3077. For the αCO with metallicity we observe a
similar flat behaviour for NGC 4214, NGC2976 and NGC3077 while for
NGC2403 and NGC0925 there is a potential negative relation. Finally we
find that the DGR is well-correlated with metallicity, with an
approximately linear slope. Our results show interesting cases of
study and the potential future for the new era of IFU surveys that
