Description

The Beta Pictoris system was the first young planetary system to ever be imaged. Ever since, the astronomical community has thoroughly investigated it, finding large amounts of dust and gas, exocomets, and two planets (for now). All of this makes it the perfect laboratory to investigate the dynamics and chemistry of the late stages of planet formation. Recent JWST observations using imaging and spectroscopy have revealed that the dynamical activity of the system is much more complex than initially expected, with a high collision rate that affects the composition and the morphology of the disk.
